Now that pubs, cafes and restaurants are finally opening their doors again, many of us will be spending much less time stuck at home than in previous months. It’s still business as usual over on Disney Plus, however, where you’ll find a swathe of new content vying to tempt you back to your sofa throughout June.

Thor’s mischievous brother takes centre stage in Loki, a brand new Marvel series available to stream from 9 June. But even if Marvel isn’t your cup of tea, there are plenty more Disney Plus original movies and series streaming this month, such as Luca, a new coming-of-age feature animation from Pixar, and The Mysterious Benedict Society, a fantasy series based on the books by Trenton Lee Stewart.

If it’s true stories you’re after, don’t miss Wolfgang, a new documentary about Austrian chef Wolfgang Puck, as well as the latest installment of the biopic anthology series Genius, following the life of the legendary soul singer Aretha Franklin.

Of course, there’s more coming in the pipeline too. New Disney animation is incoming and, as usual, more Star content will be streaming throughout the month. So, read on for our full rundown of what’s new on Disney Plus this June.

4th June – Raya and the Last Dragon

While Premier Access customers got to stream Raya and the Last Dragon in March, those of you holding out for its wider release won’t have to wait much longer: the magical animated fantasy will be available to all Disney Plus subscribers from 4 June.

Inspired by Southeast Asian cultures from countries such as Vietnam, Thailand and Singapore, Raya and the Last Dragon is set in the fictional world of Kumandra: a place where humans and dragons once lived in harmony. When an ancient evil force known as the Druun returns after 500 years, it is up to the lone warrior Raya to seek out the last remaining dragon and save Kumandra.

4th June – Genius: Aretha

The latest season of Genius, an anthology series telling the true life stories of some of history’s greatest figures, sets its focus on the Queen of Soul: Aretha Franklin. Starring the award-winning and Oscar nominated actor Cynthia Erivo (The Color Purple, Bad Times at the El Royale, Harriet), Genius: Aretha will be the first ever scripted miniseries to tell the legendary singer’s story: her life, career, and the lasting influence she made on both music and civil rights. Episodes one and two will be available to stream from 4 June.

9th June – Loki

Tom Hiddleston returns as the God of Mischief in Disney Plus’ latest Marvel series. Loki takes place immediately after the events of Avengers: Endgame, in which he steals the Tesseract and is granted the ability to travel through space and time. When an alternative “time variant” version of Loki is brought before a mysterious bureaucratic organisation, he is given a choice: help fix the timeline or be wiped from existence. Also starring Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Richard E.Grant and Wunmi Mosaku.

18th June – Luca

From director and Pixar storyboard artist Enrico Casarosa comes this coming-of-age fantasy comedy. Two young boys, Luca and Alberto, spend an adventure-filled summer in the picturesque seaside town of Portorosso on the Italian Riviera. But while they enjoy riding scooters, eating gelato and making new friends, the two boys are hiding a big secret: they are both sea monsters from a world below the ocean’s surface.

Luca, which will be available to stream from 18 June, is dedicated to the iconic Italian composer Ennio Morricone, who was originally considered to write the film’s soundtrack before his death in 2020.

25 June – The Mysterious Benedict Society

Based on the series of young adult books by Trenton Lee Stewart, The Mysterious Benedict Society follows four orphans gifted with unique abilities. At a quirky orphanage known as The Institute, Reynie, Sticky, Kate, and Constance are recruited by the eccentric Mr Benedict (played by Tony Hale) to infiltrate the L.I.V.E. organisation and to put a stop to a global crisis, behind which is Benedict’s evil twin brother, Mr Curtain (also played by Tony Hale).

25 June – Wolfgang

This new Disney Plus original movie will appeal to documentary and culinary fans alike. Wolfgang, streaming on Disney Plus towards the end of the month, tells the story of Austrian celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck. The film paints an intimate portrait of the chef’s life, from his troubled childhood and the many obstacles he faced, to his becoming the iconic chef and restaurateur he is today.

According to Disney’s description of the documentary, Wolfgang “is a film that showcases the power and strength of the human spirit.”
