How to watch the 2021 T20 Cricket World Cup

The 2021 ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup takes place in the United Arab Emirates and Oman from 17 October to 14 November 2021. You can watch every game on Sky Sports in the UK and ESPN+ in the US. If you’re travelling abroad, you can access both services using a good VPN service, like ExpressVPN.

Over the course of the tournament, 16 teams will take part in 45 matches. The last T20 Cricket World Cup was held in 2016 in India where England lost to West Indies in the Final. England defeated New Zealand in the semi-final, while West Indies defeated India.

England will start off as one of the favourites of the tournament as they are the number one-ranked side in the T20 team rankings, ahead of India, Pakistan and New Zealand. The 2010 T20 World Cup champions will be captained by Eoin Morgan who will be familiar with the Middle East conditions having played in the IPL that ended a few days before the start of the tournament.

Apart from England – who are a regular feature in world cricket – the 2021 T20 Cricket World Cup will also feature Ireland and Scotland as they comprise two of the six countries that qualified for the tournament after the T20 World Cup Qualifiers. The other four countries that have secured qualification for the tournament in similar vein include Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, Namibia and Oman.

The 2021 T20 Cricket World Cup has had its venues changed twice owing to the pandemic. It was originally scheduled to be held in Australia at the end of 2020, after which India was named as the host country. The tournament was then moved to the UAE in June 2021.

With teams having played much less cricket than before owing to the effects of the pandemic, this year’s T20 Cricket World Cup could see a surprise winner as teams will need to adapt to the conditions quickly and find their right playing XI before the knockout rounds begin.

2021 T20 Cricket World Cup Schedule

The T20 World Cup is divided into two rounds. The first round will include 12 matches between eight teams: Ireland, Scotland, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Netherlands, Namibia, Oman, Papua New Guinea. Four of these teams will progress to the Super 12s.

The Super 12s (which get underway on 24 October 2021) will feature the four of the above teams and the eight top-ranked teams T20 teams: England, India, Pakistan, New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, Afghanistan and West Indies.

The teams that qualify for the Super 12s will be split into two groups of six teams each. This will be followed by two semi-finals and the Final.

How to watch the 2021 T20 Cricket World Cup abroad: use a good streaming service

Both of the above services are geo-blocked meaning you won’t be able to access Sky Sports outside the UK and ESPN+ outside the US unless you use a good VPN service. We recommend everyone use one because – apart from letting you access streaming services blocked in your country – a good VPN service also encrypts your entire connection meaning that neither your ISP nor your mobile service provider will be able to see what you do when you go online.

Unfortunately, not all VPNs are created the same, so many promise the world and fall short of delivering while others have hidden features like ads or tracking services that you may not be aware of until you subscribe to them.

Among all the VPN services we’ve reviewed, there are two we highly recommend to stream Sky Sports and ESPN+ to watch the T20 Cricket World Cup. Both services are some of the best you’ll find when it comes to speed, streaming and privacy.
